Building a Reportís Condition Builder Field List

The VPM Enterprise Condition Builder is an interface used with the Report Setup dialogís For and While options (see ProMatrix Condition Builder). The Condition Builder lets you create conditions to select the records that will appear in a report.

You use the Report Setup Options dialog to select the fields that will appear in a reportís Condition Builder Field list. If you donít set up the Condition Builder Field list for a report, the Condition Builder for the report wonít have any fields to select when it appears.

The following steps show you how to build the list of fields that will be provided by the Condition Builder for the Report Setup dialogís For and While options. Be sure you know the aliases of the tables, views and CursorAdapters in the reportís Data Environment. You will need to know the aliases when you build the Condition Builder Field list.

ō To build a reportís Condition Builder Field list

1.   Add Tables, Views and CursorAdapters  to Combo Box: For each table in the reportís Data Environment from which you want to select fields for the Condition Builder Field list, click the Add button. VPM Enterprise displays the Add Table/View/Cursoradapter dialog listing all the tables, views and CursorAdapters in the Data Builder. Select a table, view or CursorAdapter and click the Add button. When the dialog closes, the Description of the entity you selected will be in the combo box on the Report Setup Options dialog.

∑       Table Alias: Select each table, view and CursorAdapter you add in the combo box. If the alias in the Alias box is not the alias in the reportís Data Environment, change the entry in the Alias box to the alias in the Data Environment.

Tip: Be sure that you do not add any tables, views or CursorAdapters that are not either in the reportís Data Environment or opened programmatically. When a reportís Condition Builder is run, those tables, views and CursorAdapters must be open at that point.

2.   Select Table, View or CursorAdapter: You can select fields for the Condition Builder field list from any of the tables, views and CursorAdapters you added to the combo box. Select an entity in the combo box. The Condition Field List Builder shows the fields from the entity you select in the Unselected Fields List.

3.   Select Fields: Move the fields you want in the reportís Condition Builder field list from the Unselected Fields list to the Selected Fields list.

∑       All Fields: If you want all the current fields in the selected entity and all fields you may later add to the selected table, view or CursorAdapter to be in the reportís Condition Builder field list, simply check the All Fields check box.

Tip: The All Fields check box does more than select all the fields currently in a table, view or CursorAdapter. Checking the All Fields check box means that any fields you may later add to the table, view or CursorAdapter will automatically be included in the Condition Builder field list. If you check the All Fields check box, you donít have to revisit the Condition Field List Builder to reselect new fields you add to a table, view or CursorAdapter.

∑       Order Fields: The fields in the Selected Fields list will appear in the Condition Builder Field list in the order in which they are listed. Therefore, change the order of the fields to the order that you want.

∑       All Fields Order: If you check the All Fields check box, the fields will appear in alphabetical order.

4.   Select Fields from Additional Entities: If you want to include fields from additional tables, views and CursorAdapters in the reportís Data Environment in the Condition Builder field list, repeat steps 2 and 3 above for each additional table.

5.   Build List: After you have selected the fields you want to include in the reportís Condition Builder, click the OK button. VPM Enterprise will build the Condition Builder field list for the report.
