Compound Foreign Keys

Use Override Option or Record Level Option: Changing one of the fields in a compound foreign key on a data entry form can cause a temporarily invalid foreign key combination. The combination is only temporarily invalid if it will become valid when the remaining fields in the key are changed. You can handle this problem in either of two ways:

·       Override Option: You can handle this problem by using the Override option for all fields in the foreign key. Then, if a temporarily invalid foreign key combination occurs, it can be overridden if the other foreign key fields will be changed so that a valid combination exists.

·       Record Level Option: Another way to handle this problem is to not validate the fields in the compound key at the field level but to validate them at the record level by choosing “Record” in the Level combobox.

Entry from Picklist Help: If you bring up Picklist Help while editing a compound foreign key field and select an entry in the picklist, VPM Enterprise replaces all the fields in the compound foreign key with your selection.
