Displaying a Message

You will find the class that implements the VPME messaging system in the VPMGEN.VCX, DEVGEN.VCX and PROGEN.VCX class libraries. See the "Messaging Class" section in the General Classes chapter of the VPM Enterprise Technical Reference manual.

When you want to display a message in your code, you use the DisplayMessage method of the Messaging class in PROGEN.VCX. Look in the code of the DisplayMessage method of the Messaging class to learn more about this method.

At application startup the Message object is instantiated. To display a message, you call the DisplayMessage method of the Message object like this:

_SCREEN.oApp.oMessage.DisplayMessage(stcMessageID [,stcAlternateMessage] [,stcMessageAddition] [,stcAlternateFormCaption])

Where:

stcMessageID The message ID, the string used to find the message's record in the Message table SVPMMessages.

stcAlternateMessage - If this parameter contains a value, that value will be used as the message text instead of the message text in the Message table record.

stcMessageAddition - If this parameter contains a value, that value is appended to the message text from the Message table record.

stcAlternateFormCaption - If this parameter contains a value, and the message is to be displayed in a message form, that value will be used as the form's Caption instead of the default caption.
